Building Lasting Friendships
1 Samuel 18:1-4

GENUINE FRIENDS ARE RARE TREASURES. However, the Lord created us for meaningful relationships; it’s difficult to flourish if we live in isolation. By design, we are made to share life with others, as well as to give and receive love.

Surface friendships don’t satisfy this need. But unfortunately, many people never experience anything deeper. This is why so many individuals are lonely–even if they’re always surrounded by others.

What some men and women don’t realize is that HEALTHY RELATIONSHSIPS REQUIRE DILIGENT WORK. Once God brings the right people into our lives, we must devote TIME AND EFFORT for appropriate and fruitful intimacy to develop.

In the book of 1 Samuel, David and Jonathan exemplify this type of closeness, although they seemed like improbable companions: David was merely a shepherd, whereas Jonathan was a prince. But to them, STATUS DIDN’T MATTER. In addition to HUMILITY, they demonstrated GREAT RESPECT for each other’s faith and courageous love of Israel. The two felt as COMMITTED as brothers and gave of themselves GENEROUSLY. For example, Jonathan gave David his robe–a prized possession of the king’s son–in order to show his LOYALTY AND LOVE (v. 4). The prince even risked his life and reputation in order to save his friend (1 Sam. 20:27-32).

Do you have a person like this–someone with whom to share your joys and sadnesses, strengths and weaknesses, fears and pain? Thankfully, JESUS Is The Best Friend we can have. But He also desires that we have close relationships with others. What can you do today to build this type of friendship?

His Best & Bless, James

“God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; He looks to see if there is even one with real understanding, one who seeks for God… For when God restores His people, Jacob will shout with joy, and Israel will rejoice.” [Psalm 53: 3, 6b, 6c New Living Translation]

Thank you so much for sharing with us, Brother James. Yes, it is so unbearable to be alone being with the crowd of people. As you said we need to have friends to whom we can share and be faithful to each other. But our Best Best Best Friend should always be Jesus and we also need to be careful in how we doing with the relationship with our friends. My Pastor said while he was preaching about relationship, that “If we cannot love horizontally (People around us), we really are not doing good in loving vertically (GOD)”.

1 Corinthians 13:1-7

1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

JUST LOVE ONE ANOTHER!!!

With Love,
Sushila

Dear ONE, Anjan, Shushila, Arpanah & All,

I would like to exhort us all to pray for one another as Anjan has had propositioned to be prayed for. Being a recipient of having had been blessed tremendously by daily prayers from one of my Nepali brothers 3O years ago, I want to share two of my favorite verse/passage/s regarding prayer in the Bible…

1. “When I pray, You answer me; You encourage me by giving me the strength I need.” [Psalm 138: 3 NLT]

Even before God says “yes”, “no” or “wait”, He already strengthens me to face come what may.
EL-ROI The Strong ONE Who Sees “en-courage” meaning whatever little courage I have, He will “en”, yes, He will add on to whatever courage that is left in me, isn’t that awesome of Him to do so!

2. “When Job prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes. In fact, the LORD gave him twice as much as before!” [Job 42: 10 NLT]

This motive ought to be incidental not instrumental in having us pray. The fact that He already strengthens us ought to challenge us to pray even more earnestly in the power of the Holy Spirit!

Sushila, I can understand how you might have felt being away and perhaps alone initially when you left for the new frontier… soon God’s willing, I will be away from Vancouver for 2-odd months and at times even now after many travels, shudder at the thought of how best to optimize my time away from home. Yet the LORD is also
JEHOVAH-SHAMMAH The LORD Who Is Present! And when two or three are gathered in His name, He will be in their midst!
That is our greatest consolation esp. for
[1] your goodself,
[2] Hira in Finland and
[3] Sabu in none other than my own country i.e. Singapore, anyone else I may have missed?

And yes, Arpanah, you are so right to say, “Friends make this world a better place to live in.” In fact, you are healthier because of caring friends who empathize with you… you may want to refer to one of my links from New York Times regarding this subject.

I also heard from Samu Shrestha separately, appreciate you for your concurrance, thank you. Doubtlessly, each one of your goodselves has had blessed all of us therefore as one joy shared is multiplied [whereas a sorrow shared is halved], I want to enncourage the rest of your goodselves to “EN-COURAGE” all of our goodselves whether short or long…

His Love, Best & Bless,

James

LET US PRAY TOGETHER : “For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be with you.” For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem.”
[Psalm 122: 8- 8 NLT]

Thank you all!
